Wake Forest’s leading scorer is a freshman who has led the Demon Deacons to two straight spring championships. On March 2, Carolina Chacarra won the individual title at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, while Wake Forest won the team title.
Wake Forest has now won two straight competitions, adding the Darius to its UCF Challenge championship from last month, for a total of four wins this season. The club also won the Darius Rucker when it was last played in 2020.
Wake Forest advanced from fourth to first place in the second round, winning by nine shots against the host team South Carolina. The Demon Deacons, who were ranked No. 5 by Golfweek, had the most birdies in the field.
“What a fantastic week these student-athletes have had!” In a school statement, head coach Kim Lewellen noted, “There was outstanding competition on a difficult course with phenomenal attendance all week.” “This is something we’re quite proud of.”
Rachel Kuehn was tied for 13th place for Wake Forest behind Chacarra, while Lauren Walsh and Mimi Rhodes were T-20.
