The location for the 2022 LPGA Drive On Championship has been confirmed.
Crown Colony Golf & Country Club in Fort Myers, Florida, will host the fourth edition of the 54-hole tournament, according to the LPGA. The tournament will take place from February 3-5, with a 120-player field and a $1.5 million prize pool.
After the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions in Orlando and the Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio in Boca Raton, the Drive On Championship will be the final of three straight LPGA events in Florida. Later this year, the tour will return to Florida for the Pelican Women’s Championship in Belleair and the CME Group Tour Championship in Naples to round up the season.
LPGA Commissioner Mollie Samaan remarked, “We are extremely grateful for partners like Crown Colony Golf & Country Club for embracing us as we continue the spirit of the LPGA Drive On Championship tournaments in Fort Myers.” “We’ll be utilizing another fantastic week on tour with player initiatives that will benefit our membership in a variety of ways for the next season.”
This will be the first LPGA event in Fort Myers since Sandra Haynie won the Greater Fort Myers Classic at Lochmoor Country Club in a playoff in 1975. Bonnie Bryant had won the competition the year before.
Last year at Golden Ocala, Austin Ernst took home the Drive On Championship. The tournament’s first two editions were won by Danielle Kang and Ally Ewing.
“On behalf of the Board of Governors, membership, and staff, I am ecstatic that Crown Colony has been chosen to host the LPGA Drive On Championship in 2022, which will include 120 of the world’s greatest female golfers,” said David Kent, General Manager and COO of Crown Colony Golf & Country Club. “This is a fantastic opportunity to highlight our outstanding golf club while competing at the highest level.” We excitedly await the LPGA Tour’s return to Fort Myers after 47 years.”
