Sam Burns was bitten by the Snake Pit, but it didn’t stop him from winning the Valspar Championship in 2022.
The 25-year-old successfully defended his championship on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort, winning the Valspar Championship in a playoff with rookie Davis Riley after the two tied at 17 under. Burns won the tournament with a birdie from 33 feet on the second playoff hole, the par-4 16th, after a pair of pars on the 18th.
Burns is the Valspar’s fourth two-time winner, and the second to defend his title after Paul Casey in 2018 and 2019 (the event in 2020 was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic). Burns’ Valspar victory last year was his first on the PGA Tour.
Prior to this week, the Shreveport, Louisiana native had won the Sanderson Farms Championship in October, which was his previous triumph on Tour.
