On March 15, Oregon was the only team to finish the 54-hole Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge at Palos Verdes Golf Club under par, giving the Ducks a seven-shot victory over Wake Forest. Oregon, ranked No. 2 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, has won two team victories in a row and three this season, the most for the program since 1999-2000 (after the Florida State Match Up title on the East Coast).
The Ducks’ depth was on display in Palos Verdes, where four other top-10 teams competed, as every player finished in the top 12. Hsin-Yu Lu and Sofie Kibsgaard Nielsen finished T-4, while Briana Chacon finished T-6.
Oregon hasn’t finished outside the top five in any of its first seven seasons.
In a press release, head coach Derek Radley commented, “This is a terrific win for our program.” “The Northrop Grumman Challenge is one of collegiate golf’s most prominent regular-season tournaments, and we just played against a really, really good field.” Out there, it felt like the NCAA Tournament. I’m extremely proud of our team’s focus and fortitude throughout the week, especially tonight when we needed to finish strong. They are currently playing with a lot of confidence and believe they are one of the best teams in the country. We’re looking forward to getting back to work and keeping this momentum going.”
