Stanford’s scorching season reached new heights at the Gunrock Invitational, as the Cardinal established an NCAA 54-hole score record. Their total of 50 under 814 broke LSU’s previous best of 46 under and Stanford’s prior best by 22 strokes.
At Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento, the Cardinal defeated Washington by 35 shots, the greatest margin of victory in program history.
“I don’t know what to say,” head coach Anne Walker stated. “It’s a lot of fun, and this squad is deserving of it.” I’m excited for them, and excited for Del Paso the course, because we have so many outstanding players from top to bottom. I don’t know what to say about it, but I’m quite proud of them. It’s fantastic to get back on track after San Diego State.”
Rachel Heck, a sophomore, won her eighth title. Andrea Lee has nine victories in her Stanford career. Heck also established a school record with his 18-under total. Jaclyn Lee of Ohio State established the NCAA record of 19 under in 2018.
Rose Zhang, the world’s No. 1 amateur, was runner-up to Heck at 14 under, while sophomore Sadie Englemann tied for fourth place for the first time in her career.
This season, Stanford has won five titles in six team events. Zhang has three solo victories, while Heck has won the last two.
“It’s wonderful to see Rachel Heck, who we had here last spring,” Walker added. “She’s overjoyed. Every shot she takes is loose, confident, and relaxed. She’s really enjoying herself with the game. I’m thrilled to be a part of her eighth win today, and I believe there will be plenty more to come.”
