On Sunday in Chonburi, Thailand, Nanna Koerstz Madsen won the Honda LPGA Thailand in extra holes to become the LPGA’s first Danish winner.
On the second playoff hole at Siam Country Club’s Pattaya Course, Madsen blasted a 10-footer for eagle to eliminate China’s Xiyu Lin and claim her first LPGA victory.
“It’s a dream come true,” Madsen, who has been a member of the LPGA since 2018, said. “It had been a busy day, with a lot of nice things happening…. I’m ecstatic to be holding the trophy in my hands right now.”
With three holes to play, Madsen had a four-hole lead over Lin before surrendering two strokes down the stretch, including one after hitting an 8-iron into the grandstands at the par-5 18th and failing to get up and down for par. Lin, on the other hand, birdied her final two holes to force a playoff on the same hole.
Madsen and Lin both finished regulation at 26 under par, one stroke better than Jessica Korda’s previous tournament record.
“She put up a good fight,” says the narrator “Lin, according to Madsen. “… I’ll be honest, I was a little nervous there.”
Madsen hit a 4-footer to extend and set up her winning eagle putt after Lin nearly chipped in for eagle on the first extra hole.
Lin expressed his pride by saying, “I’m quite proud.” “It can seem strange at times. You can’t win a tournament if you shoot 26 under, but that’s my lowest score in a competition week, and it was four days of very good golf. I feel like I’m going to get a lot out of this.”
