Kevin Na fell down the leaderboard at the Sony Open on Friday, needing 10 more strokes to complete a second-round 71, a day after hitting a 9-under 61 to take the first-round lead.
He had one more shot saved for Twitter.
Following a shot from fellow tour pro Grayson Murray criticizing Na’s cautious style of play, the reigning Sony champion retaliated with a burn of his own.
“Kevin Na walking in putts does not get old,” reporter Chantel McCabe wrote on Twitter. “Kevin Na spending 3 minutes to putt them does get old,” Murray, who has a history of Twitter trouble, quote-tweeted McCabe’s tweet.
The cheap shot didn’t seem to sit well with Na. “U missing the cut is getting old!” he replied to Murray a few hours later. (Murray hasn’t played on the Tour since July, as he continues to struggle with anxiety.)

Murray then responded with a couple of quote tweets of his own:
“Hahaha Would never say such a thing to my face.” (This one has since been removed by Murray.)
“If they penalized you for slow play the way they should, you’d never make another cut.”
Na has yet to respond, and with two rounds remaining in Honolulu, we wouldn’t be surprised if the back-and-forth continued.
