Sam Burns is ranked in the top ten players in the world for the first time in his career.
In the first Official World Golf Ranking update of the new year, the 25-year-old LSU product displaced Louis Oosthuizen at No. 10, moving up a spot.
Burns began last year ranked No. 154 in the world before finishing ninth on the PGA Tour with nine top-10 performances, including his first two career wins at the Valspar Championship and Sanderson Farms Championship. He also finished 2021 with three top-10 finishes in a row.
There was little movement last week because there were no competitions. The top five players are Jon Rahm, Collin Morikawa, Dustin Johnson, Patrick Cantlay, and Bryson DeChambeau. Viktor Hovland moved up to seventh place, swapping places with Justin Thomas, who fell to ninth.

Tiger Woods, on the other hand, continues to regress as he heals from a major right leg injury. Woods has slid from No. 566 to No. 598, putting him between Fabian Gomez and Ryan McCormick on the leaderboard.
