In Round 1 of the Valspar Championship, Charl Schwartzel struck his tee shot 192 yards on the par-3 15th. Unfortunately, the hole was 215 yards long.
ShotLink, on the other hand, did not record how far Schwartzel launched his iron.
At No. 15, Schwartzel’s sixth hole of the day at Innisbrook, he came up short of the green. On his first nine, the tossed club was one of a slew of emotions.
The South African got off to a good start with birdies at 11 and 12. At the par-3 13th, he made a triple-bogey 6. He holed out from 194 yards for eagle at the par-4 16th, following his outburst at the 15th (apparently that 192-194-yard range is in his wheelhouse).
Schwartzel went par-birdie-birdie-triple-par-bogey-eagle on his first seven holes. And it all adds up to a level playing field.
The former Masters champion has had a difficult season. In eight races, Schwartzel has missed six cuts, including all five starts in 2022.
