The PNC Championship was won by John Daly and his son, John II (formerly known as Little John), by two strokes over Team Woods. Tiger and Charlie put up a fight, shooting 11 consecutive birdies at one point, but it wasn’t enough.
Despite his defeat, John observed glimpses of improvement from the 15-time major champion in Orlando. On ‘Fox and Friends,’ the Dalys were interviewed, and the elder John was asked about Tiger.
“I believe Tiger will be alright. He appeared to be in good shape. He appeared fatigued, yet he still looked fantastic. I could see it in his eyes that he’d be back.
“He’ll most likely break Jack Nicklaus’ records and become the all-time great.”
Daly had seen Tiger’s expression before. Woods fired a 67 in the final round of the 2005 American Express Championship at TPC Harding Park to force a playoff with J.D. Daly yipped a three-footer to lose on the second playoff hole. Tough.
Woods’ homecoming date is yet to be determined. Golf fans may expect a limited schedule from him.
“I’m not there yet.” When asked about returning to the PGA Tour after the PNC, he responded, “I can’t compete against these guys right now, no.” “It’ll take a lot of work to get to the point where I feel like I can compete with these guys and perform at a high level,” he says.
