The location of the rival tour’s events is one of the many issues surrounding the Saudi-backed super league. The Washington Post may have answered part of that question on Saturday.
According to the Washington Post, LIV Golf, the fund behind Greg Norman’s super league, has been in contact with executives from former President Donald Trump’s golf club organization about hosting super league tournaments.
Two of Trump’s courses in Doral, Fla., and Bedminster, N.J., are mentioned in the article as potential landing locations for the super league, while the Trump company also has courses in Jupiter, Fla., Washington, D.C., and Westchester, N.Y.
LIV Golf and the Trump Organization declined or did not respond to the Post’s requests for comment.
Doral had been the long-time host of a PGA Tour tournament until Trump launched his presidential campaign in 2016, when the World Golf Championship was transferred to Mexico City. Following the Jan. 6 insurgency in which pro-Trump fans stormed the US Capitol, the PGA of America canceled the 2022 PGA Championship from Trump’s course in Bedminster.
No players have signed on to play in the super league, and LIV Golf hasn’t revealed any information, including a name, but the likelihood of a rival tour has grown in recent weeks as whispers of high-profile defections, including Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau, linger.
Various reports claim that the super league will feature 14 events, with at least 10 of them taking place in the United States.
