For the 77th U.S. Women’s Open, the United States Golf Association has announced 26 qualifying locations. With a new $10 million purse on the line, up from $5.5 million in 2021, there’s a lot to play for.
The first 36-hole qualifier will be held at Meridian Valley Country Club in Kent, Washington, on Tuesday, April 19. Through May 16, the tournaments will be held in 17 U.S. states as well as three international locations. After being canceled the previous two years owing to the worldwide epidemic, international qualifying will take place in South Korea, Japan, and England.
Female pros and amateurs having a handicap index of less than 2.4 are eligible to compete. On Wednesday, February 16, online entry applications will be available until 5 p.m. ET on Wednesday, April 6.
The 156-player field for this year’s US Women’s Open will be held at Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club in Southern Pines, North Carolina, from June 2 to 5. This will be the fourth USWO to be hosted at Pine Needles, which is a new record. Cristie Kerr won the most recent USWO in 2007, followed by Karrie Webb (2001) and Annika Sorenstam (1996).
Yuka Saso won the U.S. Women’s Open in 2021, defeating Nasa Hataoka in a three-hole playoff at the historic Olympic Club.
