Scottie Scheffler witnessed it all Saturday afternoon at TPC Sawgrass’ 17th hole, from one of the worst shots to one of the luckiest.
Scheffler went to the drop zone for the second time on the day after half-shanking his tee shot well right and wet. He had also rinsed his tee shot long in Round 1, which he finished earlier on Saturday. Shortly before the wipey tee shot was seized by the wind and ended up midway between the island green and the former flower barge, he switched clubs.
Scheffler’s third shot also came close to hitting the drink, but his ball hit the back of the green and raced through the collar before spinning off the bulkhead and back into the second cut.
Scheffler chipped in close after that and sunk the putt for a double bogey. In Rounds 1-2, he played Nos. 17 and 18 for a total of 6 over.
