AUSTIN, Texas (KTRK) – Multiple tornadoes ripped across central Texas late Monday, but Austin Country Club, which is hosting the year’s first World Golf Championship, escaped damage.
Wind gusts of up to 40 mph were recorded on the PGA Tour course, and three-quarters of an inch of rain fell on the course, causing flood warnings throughout the city. Fortunately, neither the infrastructure nor the course for this week’s WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, which was closed Monday afternoon due to hazardous weather, were damaged.
At least three tornadoes struck Round Rock, Texas, 14 miles from Austin Country Club, leaving “severe structural damage” and “car damage.” Tornadoes were also reported in the surrounding towns of Elgin and Hutto, but the storm stayed close to Austin Country Club.
