The rival startup is now said to be in talks with media companies about acquiring television and streaming rights. Front Office Sports reports that the circuit, led by Greg Norman, is attempting to secure $500 million in global television rights.
“Streaming platforms, particularly Netflix, Amazon, and Apple, are truly global.” “That’s one avenue we may follow,” Sean Bratches, a former ESPN executive and LIV Golf’s chief commercial officer, said.
Bratches also hinted that the group would hold a bidding procedure for each country, citing “widespread interest.”
The details are scant, but LIV claims to have a “short list” of potential announcers, including three “interesting names.”
The PGA Tour has decided to renew its contracts with current media partners CBS, NBC, and ESPN for nine-year extensions totaling $7 billion beginning in March 2020. The agreement runs from 2022 to 2030.
